1. The Music
The main reason for K-Pop growing in popularity is that they make music that people wants to listen to. According to Billboard, their album 'Love Yourself: Tear', which is sung in Korean, became "the first primarily foreign-language No 1 album in over 12 years."
Many people say that the subject of their music has played a part in their success. While many K-pop songs are about relationships and love, BTS cover subjects that other bands may not like bullying, elitism and mental health.
3. The Internet
The internet - and in particular social media - has played an enormous part in the success of the group. In 2018, the boys won a Billboard Music Award for Top Social Artist, beating huge names like Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez. They were the first K-Pop group to win one.
"We still cannot believe that we are standing here on this stage at the Billboard Music Awards," the group said in their acceptance speech.
Social media has also allowed the group to connect with their followers on a personal level and gather fans across the world, including here in Pakistan.
4. The Fans
No band can have success without its fans and BTS has some of the most loyal, dedicated fans that the world has EVER seen with 29.2 million followers on Twitter and 40.7 million on Instagram.
Known as the ARMY, it was the fans who cast an unbelievable 300 million online votes to ensure that the group won their Billboard award.
And in Autumn 2017, they watched the video for 'DNA' 50 million times on YouTube in just one month!
How did they become so successful?
Over the years, the group have produced material around various themes starting with the 'School' trilogy. They've been number one on iTunes in over 91 countries and regions with their latest album Map Of The Soul: 7, have got over 26 million subscribers on YouTube and are the first K-pop band EVER to top the US album charts. The social engagement is consistently unsurpassed; earlier this year, Jungkook broke his record by amassing over two million likes on five different tweets, breaking the previous record set by Barack Obama. He is also the most searched for K-pop Idol on Google and YouTube while in 2019, BTS were the most Googled boy band in the world.
What is an ARMY in BTS?
ARMY is an acronym that stands for Adorable Representative MC for Youth. So most of the time you'll see BTS fans referred to as ARMY, or collectively as the BTS ARMY.
The members of BTS came up with the name themselves and chose it because an army is never without its Armour (which, in this case, is BTS themselves). The ARMY logo is the inverse of the BTS logo, and when you stack the two on top of each other, they make the shape of a shield, playing into the ARMY theme.

What is the position of the BTS members in a group?
While groups outside of K-Pop mostly shy away from giving their members official positions like “leader” or “lead singer,” in K-Pop, they’re embraced. The positions in K-Pop groups include individual ones like a leader (the member who motivates the members and represents them overall) and center (the member who’s placed in the middle of the group during promotions), vocal and dance lines (broken down by skill level), and a visual line. The word “main” denotes a group member’s skill level in a particular line. If a member holds a “main” position, it means they exhibit the most skill and technique of all the members in the line, and usually get the most challenging parts.
Whereas a “lead” role is a member who has the second-best technique and is given parts that often complement the main members’ parts in a line.
In BTS, here’s how the members’ positions shake out:
1. RM is the leader and main rapper.
2. Jin is a visual and a vocalist.
3. Suga is the lead rapper.
4. J-Hope is the main dancer, a rapper, and a vocalist.
5. Jimin is the main dancer and the lead vocalist.
6. V is a lead dancer, a vocalist, and a visual.
7. Jungkook is the main vocalist, a lead dancer, and the center.
Does Pakistan have BTS fans?
BTS has grown popular in Pakistan ever since they won the Top Social Artist at the Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs) two years in a row, beating Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande and much more. They also got more recognition when they performed DNA at AMAs in front of many Western Artists. The first-ever Pakistani fan base official page for their fans is known as (BPOFC) BTS Pakistan Official Fan Page.
They aim to provide the latest updates and projects regarding BTS and to bring Pakistani Army's on a common platform.
BTS is the biggest K-pop group internationally - and it doesn't look like they're stopping any time soon.
It's fair to say, BTS is the K-pop band that is taking over the world.
